All in the detail

A lot has happened since I stopped blogging on my old account, Sew the City. I finished College and then transferred into University to finish my degree in Fashion and Textile Design at Grays School of Art, Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, I am now in my third year, only one more year to go! Yaay! I could go on and on about all the things I have been up to, but why not just show you!

So I started my third year in September and the first project was titled, All in the Detail. I was designated the assignment of creating a ladies top. The aim of the project was to concentrate on every single detail that went into the design process, how would the garment fasten, would it be structural, if so how would I convey that? It was a challenge, especially as I was allowed to pick only one image to work from.

The above image was my only research tool that I was allowed, I then created fifty fashion drawings based on my image. From there along with my tutor I picked the most successful design and began to draft a pattern to create the garment.

Some of the designs

I then created a Toile of my garment, made various adjustments to the patterns and began to create the final garment.

Cutting out the pattern pieces

The fabric was already bought by my tutor which was a medium weight cotton blend, I could choose from Navy, Maroon, Yellow and Grey. I decided to use the Navy along with the Yellow as a lining. I then began constructing the garment together. After I created the garment I was then paired with another member of my class who had constructed a bottom, so that together we would have a complete outfit, Myself and Greta then put together our garments and worked on styling and finding models so that we could shoot the pieces in the photography studio. After a lot of hard work I am pleased with how all of the images came together.

So what do you think of the top I created?

Would you ever wear something like it?

Let me know!

  7. I cannot contain my excitement about this piece: it's utterly amazing! I think it's so cool that you (and your partner) can create something like that! I would love to wear it, but I cannot imagine doing so... I do really see it being used as an outfit in a science-fiction or a fashion-themed film, though. (Yes, I know they're completely different thing, the outfit just strikes me as either something really futuristic or something by a designer in making. ;D)

I've followed: can't wait to see more of your creations!

Who modelled? And I also really love your blog header...how did you make it?

x It would mean a lot if you followed me, too! Cloudy Dreams
